Former Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Nageswara Rao has been made the chairman of the committee.

The University Grant Commission (UGC) has formed the Fact Finding Committee to find the body of Nepali Student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).

The committee has four members. Former Vice Chancellor Nageshwar Rao of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been made the chairman of the committee. The committee has to submit its report in 10 days.

The committee will not only investigate the deaths of two Nepali students but will also suggest students welfare, security regulation and measures to stop such incidents. The committee will also tested Kiit’s Mental Health Support System.

The body of Prisa Sah, a student of B.Tech Computer Science Engineering First Year, was found hanging from the hostel room fan on 1 May. Earlier in February too, another Nepalese student was committed by nature Lamsal.

At the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), the body of B-Tech Third Year student nature Lamsal was found in the hostel on 16 February earlier. It was said that he committed suicide. On the death of the student, other international international students of the college demonstrated against the university administration.

The students alleged that the Indian student of nature’s batch was harassing him. It was claimed that the student was the girl’s boyfriend. Students say that despite complaints, the university did not take action against the accused. The students also alleged that the university also tried to suppress the case.

On the complaint of the student’s cousin, the police arrested the accused Indian student. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against him. Apart from this, about 10 others were also arrested. These included three directors of the university.

To investigate the matter, the Government of Odisha constituted the High Level Fact Finding Committee with Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development Department and Commissioner-Society of Higher Education Department.
