New Delhi. India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu was eliminated from the tournament after losing in the first round of the All England Badminton Championship. Sindhu lost in three games despite winning the first game against Kima’s Kim Ga Yun. However, there was good news for India in the women’s doubles where Commonwealth Games bronze medalist pair Trasha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Chinese Taipei’s Sho Yun Sung and Chien Hua U 21-17, 21-13 to advance to the final 16. 29-year-old Sindhu, who was returning after a toe muscle injury, lost 21-19, 13–21, 13-21 against the world number 21, 13–21, 13–21 against Kim, the world number 21 in the match for more than an hour in Arena Birmingham.
PV Sindhu had earlier won the only match against Kim in the Hong Kong Open against Kim. This is another disappointing result for Sindhu. In January, after the India Open Super 750 was out of the quarter -finals, she failed to move beyond the first round of Indonesia Masters. The pair of Rohan Kapoor and Rutwika Shivani Gade, however, won three games in a tough match and made it to the second round of the mixed doubles competition.

The world number 40 of Rohan and Rutwika defeated Yi Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzhalase Chan’s Chinese Taipei pair 21-10 17-21 24-22 in the first round. The Indian pair will face Yen Jhey Feng and or Shin Wei’s fifth seed in the second round. Sindhu played tape on the right leg in this match. She was in a very strong position by taking a 20-12 lead in the first game but after that she gave Kim a chance to return to 19-20. The Indian player, however, won the first game by scoring important points.
Kim had achieved the rhythm at the end of the first game and then did not give Sindhu any chance. The Korean player took a 4–1 lead in the second game and crossed 7–2 with the cross court smash. Taking advantage of Kim’s mistakes, Sindhu scored 6-9 but Korea’s player won 42 shot rally and was ahead 11-9 until the break. Kim then pushed Sindhu on the backfoot and took a 17–12 lead with a powerful cross court smash. Sindhu made a mistake in the service and gave Kim seven game points and then entangled the shot on the net and gave the Korean player a chance to compete 1-1.
In the third and decisive game, Kim made a faster starting to lead a 7-2 but Sindhu scored 7-9. Kim was ahead 11-7 until the break. After this, the Indian player hit several shots on the net and out, which made Kim a 17-11 lead. The Korean player secured eight matches points with a drop shot and forehand cross. Sindhu saved one point but then lost the match by hitting the net.
