A study was conducted on this subject under the leadership of an doctoral student Anirudh Patel at Columbia University and this study shows that magnetators, ie stars that are highly magnetic neutrons, can help in making and spread heavy elements from iron like gold in the universe. Louisiana State University co-writer Eric Burns said it was like solving a century old puzzle using forgotten observations. These flares come from magnetars, a rare type of neutron star with a powerful magnetic field. Only one teaspoon of neutron star content will be worth billions of tons on Earth.
