Police have arrested 22 people in the case of violence on April 8 in Murshidabad, West Bengal to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act. Out of these, 8 accused have been sent to police custody for further investigation.

Jangipur Superintendent of Police (SP), Anand Roy said that the police have registered a case on their own about the violence. He visited the area on Wednesday and took stock of the situation.

In fact, on 8 April, the protesters set fire to several vehicles in protest against the Waqf law. It also included police vehicles. The protesters also threw stones in the clash, injuring several policemen.

Since the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill, 12 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court till now. The 3 -judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear 10 petitions on 16 April.

The bench will include CJI Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and KV Vishwanathan. At the same time, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is protesting across the country from today.

The Muslim Personal Law Board will perform in Bhopal on Thursday to protest against the Waqf Bill. This performance will take place at the Central Library Ground from 2 pm to 4 pm. A large number of people of Muslim society will gather in it.

The Waqf Amendment Act was passed on April 2 after a discussion of 12-12 hours in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on 3 April. After this, President Draupadi Murmu approved the bill late on 5 April. The government had issued a gazette notification regarding the new law.

During the discussion on the bill, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had said- The purpose of the law is to prevent bias, misuse and encroachment in Waqf properties. The bill was supported by 128 members in the Rajya Sabha, 95 protested. This bill was passed in the midnight of 2 April in the Lok Sabha.
