In protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, protesters in Murshidabad, West Bengal, set fire to several vehicles on 8 April to protest against the Waqf Act.
Police have arrested 22 people in the case of violence on April 8 in Murshidabad, West Bengal to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act. Out of these, 8 accused have been sent to police custody for further investigation.
Jangipur Superintendent of Police (SP), Anand Roy said that the police have registered a case on their own about the violence. He visited the area on Wednesday and took stock of the situation.
In fact, on 8 April, the protesters set fire to several vehicles in protest against the Waqf law. It also included police vehicles. The protesters also threw stones in the clash, injuring several policemen.
Since the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill, 12 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court till now. The 3 -judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear 10 petitions on 16 April.
The bench will include CJI Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and KV Vishwanathan. At the same time, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is protesting across the country from today.
On April 8, a large number of Muslim community people attended the protest in Murshidabad to protest against the Waqf Act. Violence took place during this demonstration.
There will be a protest against Waqf law in Bhopal today
The Muslim Personal Law Board will perform in Bhopal on Thursday to protest against the Waqf Bill. This performance will take place at the Central Library Ground from 2 pm to 4 pm. A large number of people of Muslim society will gather in it.

BJP will tell Muslims the benefits of Waqf Amendment Act
The BJP will now communicate directly with the Muslim community about the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 and will explain the benefits of this law to them. For this, a workshop is being organized at the party headquarters in Delhi today.
This workshop will be addressed by BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda. Along with him, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and prominent BJP leaders from across the country will also attend the event.
Mamta said- Waqf law will not be applicable in Bengal
West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee said on Tuesday that the new Waqf Act will not be implemented in West Bengal. He said that as long as there is Mamta Didi in West Bengal, he will protect the property of the Muslim community. He said-
Some people ask why I go to the places of every religion. I will go all my life. Whether someone shoots, I cannot be separated from unity. There will be no division in the name of religion in Bengal. Live and let live this is our way.
On this statement, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that Mamata is fake Hindu, she has proved this by her language and conduct. Hindus shops in Murshidabad were vandalized, police were attacked. Still Mamta is silent.

Intervention petition filed in support of law
Intervention (intervention) petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court in support of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. These petitions states that this amendment is in line with the spirit of the Indian Constitution and does not violate the rights of a member of any Muslim community.
These petitions have been filed by Satish Kumar Aggarwal, member of All India Hindu Mahasabha and Vishnu Gupta, National President of Hindu Army. In these petitions, the Waqf Board has been accused of misusing the Waqf Act to declare millions of acres of land as Waqf property.

In the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, there was an uproar on the new Waqf law on the second day on 8 April. The National Conference (NC) MLAs raised slogans demanding a discussion on the bill in the House. During this, there was also a shock between NC and BJP MLAs.
7 April: The NC MLA tore a copy of the Waqf Act in the House. An NC MLA tore his jacket and waved in the House. After this, the speaker postponed the House’s action for the whole day. Other parties, including NC, had said to bring resolution against the Waqf law.
8 April: On Tuesday, the National Conference (NC) MLAs shouted slogans demanding a discussion on the bill in the House. During this, there was also a shock between NC and BJP MLAs.
9 April: The National Conference demanded a discussion on the new law. There was a debate with BJP MLAs in the House.
In the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, there was an uproar over the new Waqf law for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
On April 5, the President approves the law, the gazette notification issued
The Waqf Amendment Act was passed on April 2 after a discussion of 12-12 hours in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on 3 April. After this, President Draupadi Murmu approved the bill late on 5 April. The government had issued a gazette notification regarding the new law.
During the discussion on the bill, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had said- The purpose of the law is to prevent bias, misuse and encroachment in Waqf properties. The bill was supported by 128 members in the Rajya Sabha, 95 protested. This bill was passed in the midnight of 2 April in the Lok Sabha. During this period, 288 MPs voted in support and 232 in protest.
