New Delhi. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has made it very easy to transfer money to India. But with this facility, the danger of accidentally sending money on the wrong UPI ID has also increased. If you have made such a mistake, there is no need to panic. Know here what you should do immediately.
If the recipient’s phone number is linked to the UPI ID, call or message them. Explain the situation peacefully and retire to return the money from them. Many times people cooperate and return the money without any formal complaint.
2. Report via UPI app
All major UPI apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM have support options. Go to your transaction history, choose wrong transfer and choose the option of ‘Raise a Dispute’ or ‘Report an Issue’. Explain information like transaction id, UPI ID, amount and date. Taking action on time increases the chances of getting the money back.
Contact your bank’s customer service and report the mistake. Banks usually have mechanisms for the solution of UPI dispute and they can start the reversal process. They can ask for a written complaint from you or suggest going to the nearest branch.
4. Contact NPCI
If the app or bank does not get help, contact the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Go to www.npci.org.in and file a complaint with transaction details and supporting documents such as screenshots or bank statements in the dispute redressal section.
If the solution is not found even after 30 days, then you can file a complaint through the RBI CMS portal with the Digital Transaction Ombdsman of the Reserve Bank of India. This is especially useful when the amount is important.
Upi tips to avoid mistakes
1. Always check again before confirming the UPI ID and amount.
3. Be cautious while scanning the QR code.
4. Avoid clicking on unknown UPI link. Beware of fraud.
