Mumbai: R Madhavan is currently in discussion about the film ‘Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala’. Akshay Kumar and Ananya Pandey starrer plays R Madhavan as a lawyer in this film. He has put his side on the ongoing debate on the historical representation in Karikulam of the school. At the same time, the film has reacted to the allegations of showing anything in the name of the creative inteipendent. R Madhavan told News18 Shosha, “I can have trouble saying this, but I would still say. When I read history in school, there were 8 chapters on the Mughals, Harappa and Mohenjodaro civilizations, 2 on 2, 4 on British rule and freedom struggle, 4, and there was only one chapter on the southern states- Chola, Pandya, Pandya, Pallava and Cher.”

R Madhavan further said, “British and Mughals ruled us for about 800 years, but the Chola Empire is 2,400 years old. Chola was at the top of sea journey and naval power. Their Spice (Masale) root was spread to Rome. Where is that part of our history?

Concern expressed about not having Tamil history in the book

R Madhavan further said, “People in Korea speak half Tamil because our language reached there. And we covered it in only one chapter.” Madhavan said that the Mughal Empire had earlier surrounded a large part of the books of school history. Interestingly, the National Educational Research and Training Council (NCERT )’s decision to remove all references to the Mughal Empire and Delhi Sultanate from the history books of class 7 is being debated.

R Madhavan raised questions on those who decide the syllabus

These parts have been replaced by content of government initiatives like ‘Holy Geography’, Mahakumbh Mela and ‘Make in India’ and ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. Targeting those who prepared this Karikulam, R Madhavan said, “Who is the story? Who has decided the syllabus? Tamil is the oldest language in the world, but no one knows about it. The scientific knowledge hidden in our culture is being made fun of.”

R Madhavan reacted ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ on creative freedom

R Madhavan said, “” Kesari Chapter 2 “is a step towards changing this story. If we have to correct things, do not blame us for small freedom. Tell us only when we have changed the story. Let us only blame when we do not bring a result of history.
