Dr. Pathak told that when a woman has a pre-mature delivery or the baby is born in low weight, then KMC is very effective in that state. According to Dr. Pathak, after birth, the first 18 to 20 hours of newborn is very important to get the heat of the mother’s skin. If for some reason, the mother is not feeling well or has done an operation, then any other parent can also adopt this process.

Dr. Pathak says that in this process the baby is kept sticking to the mother’s chest. This not only gives him heat but also increases growth and weight. The KMC can play the role of a life guard for those babies who are born before 8.5 months or who weigh down. Kangaroo Mother Care Units have been established in the District Hospital, Badlapur and Dadri CHC in Gautam Budh Nagar district in collaboration with local administration and National Health Mission. In places like CHC Bhangel, Noida Sector-110, where about 250 delivery takes place every month, there is a preparation to install this unit soon.

According to Dr. Meera Pathak, an infant needs KMC every 50th delivery.
