Tokyo: The Indian doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reached the second round with a win in straight games in the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament on Wednesday, while Lakshya Sen also managed to make it to the next round of men’s singles.

In the men’s doubles, currently the 15th position in the world rankings, Satwik and Chirag defeated the Korean pair of Kang Min Huk and Kim Dong Joo 21-18 21-10 in just 42 minutes.

It took some time for the world’s former number one Indian pair to get a rhythm and presented a tough challenge in the first game of Korea players. Satvik and Chirag dominated the second game from the beginning and easily entered the next round.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, which has been in bad form for some time, performed brilliantly and defeated Wang Zheng Jing of China 21-11 21-18.

The world number 18 player Lakshya maintained complete control in the first game and took a lead of 11-2 and then took the game without any trouble.

In the second game, Jing presented a challenge, but the target maintained the lead by taking advantage of the initial rhythm and won the match in straight games. Now he will face Japan’s seventh seed Kodai Naraoka.
