The IAS officer of Telangana cadre, Smita Sabharwal, who came into controversy by sharing AI generated photos on social media, has been transferred. On 31 March 2025, Smita shared AI’s Jibilee photo on her social media account.

Hyderabad University was opposing it over the student union, cutting of trees and threat to wildlife. The hearing of the case is going on in the Supreme Court. Apart from Smita, 20 other officers have also been transferred.
Smita Sabharwal was born on 19 June 1977 in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Sabharwal became the UPSC topper by putting fourth rank in the year 2000. He received the Telangana cadre after IAS training.

Smita has been the secretary of the Chief Minister
Smita Sabharwal is currently the Chief Secretary of Youth Production, Tourism and Culture (Yat & C). He is also the director of the Department of Archeology. Now he has been appointed as Member Secretary in the Finance Commission of Telangana.
In 2024, Smita became the Chief Secretary of Yat & C from this post and now she has been transferred to her old post again. Smita Sabharwal has been the Chief Minister of the Chief Minister during the BRS government in 2023. After the Congress government came to the state, he was dropped from the Chief Minister’s office.
Telangana police issued notice
On April 12, the Telangana police issued a notice against Smita for spreading misleading materials by sharing AI generated photos. Smita had said that she is being specially targeted.
Police said that notice was issued to find out what he posted and where did he get these pictures. On April 19, Sabharwal said on ‘X’, “I have fully supported Gachibovali police officers and gave my statement.
This post was recited by 2000 people. Has similar action been initiated for all? ‘ Sabharwal said that if such action is not taken for everyone, then it should be considered deliberately targeting it. This is a violation of the principles of equality of law.
The complainants alleged that the purpose of this post was to create unrest, to incite students and agitating groups.
Supreme Court said- Trees cutting in Telangana is serious
On April 3, the Supreme Court banned any activity on the land near Hyderabad University. The court had said that the Telangana government should not do any activity other than safety of trees on the ground.
A bench of Justice BR Gawai and Justice Augustine George Christ described the cutting of trees in the state as very serious. The bench had said that the report of the Registrar of the Telangana High Court shows its dangerous picture. The report shows that a large number of trees have been cut.
Apart from this, the bench has sought an early answer from the Chief Secretary of Telangana to start work by cutting trees on the land near the university. At the same time, the state has asked whether the state has taken an assessment certificate of the impact on the environment for such activities (harvesting of trees).
University students demonstrated on 30 March
On April 2, the Supreme Court took cognizance of the harvesting of trees on 400 acres of land near the university. The court also directed the Telangana High Court Registrar to visit the site and present the report. The next hearing in the case will be held on 16 April.
University students protested on March 30 over environmental concerns. Dozens of bulldozers were brought in the presence of police to clean the land. During this, there was a sharp clash between the students and the police.

Police said- students attacked, case will go on
BRS alleged- In the presence of police, dozens of bulldozers were brought to level the land. During this, the police beat up the protesting students with sticks.
The girls were crying that their clothes were torn, but the police did not listen to them and took him to the police station. About 200 people were arrested.
However, the police said that 53 students obstructing government work have been taken into precautionary custody. Some of them also attacked the police. A case was registered against him.
