Google warns! 2.5 billion gmail passwords stolen, save your account like this
New Delhi. Google has issued a large security alert, warning that around 2.5 billion gmail accounts may be exposed in a large -scale data theft campaign. The company’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) has linked this violation to a danger actor called UnC6395, which targeted accounts between August 8 to August 18, 2025.

Details of breech
According to Google’s advice, the attackers gained access to GMAIL data using the Authentication token compromised with third-party integration. Once entering inside, the attacker systematically drawn large amounts of account data, including username, email address, login details and credentials stored with other cloud services in some cases.

According to the report, the attackers discovered sensitive information such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) Keys, Enterprise Login URLs and Snowflake access tokens. Google reported that although the group tried to delete Query Jobs to cover their tracks, the logs were preserved and could be used to verify exposure by organizations and users.

Effect on user
Although Google has not confirmed how many personal users have been directly misused, the company said that the scale of this violation is such that Gmail accounts can be affected worldwide. There is no evidence of compromise with the main system of Gmail. Instead, this violation is caused by third -party integration that allowed the attackers to withdraw data associated with Gmail accounts.

What you should do
Google is urging all Gmail users to immediately do the following:
• Reset the password and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) if not already active.
• Check the recent login activity in Gmail settings so that suspicious access efforts can be identified.
• Cancel the app permissions by going to Google Account Safety Dashboard and by removing unfamiliar third -party apps.
• Change credentials associated with Gmail, such as API key or login details stored in messages.
• Be cautious about fisting efforts, as attackers can use stolen data to make a target scam.
