Dehradun: With the arrival of monsoon, dengue has started spreading its feet. The increase in cases of this dangerous mosquito -borne disease is being seen across the state. Since April, more than 112 cases of dengue have been reported in the state, out of which 86 cases have been registered from the capital Dehradun. This rapidly increasing number has increased the concern of both the Health Department and the Municipal Corporation.
Like every year, this time also after the rain, due to the water deposits in the city, there has been a favorable environment for the breeding for Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are responsible for spreading dengue virus. There is a tremendous increase in the number of mosquitoes in places with waterlogging and dirt. Given the seriousness of dengue infection, the State Health Department is cautious. All government and private hospitals have been kept on alert and special dengue wards have also been made to immediately identify suspected patients. Along with this, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has also already geared up.
Dengue condition at district level
According to the Health Department, two new patients have been confirmed on Tuesday, one of which is from Dehradun and the other outright. Currently there are 19 active cases in the district. Out of these, 9 patients are admitted to Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, 2 Himalayan Hospital Jollygrant, 2 AIIMS Rishikesh and 4 graphic Era Hospital, while 2 patients are undergoing treatment in home isolation. Out of the 112 people found infected so far, 93 patients have fully recovered and returned home, while the number of active cases remains a cause of concern.
Dehradun Municipal Corporation is also playing an active role in dengue. Municipal corporation Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said that fogging campaign has been intensified in all the wards of the city. Special fogging is being done at dirty water sources, drains and water logging places. The municipal teams are investigating the larvae from house to house and are working to destroy it. Survey was conducted in about 14,465 houses in the city area, out of which 69 houses were found to be larvae of dengue mosquitoes. Apart from this, the investigation of 97,285 containers found a larva in 93, which was destroyed with immediate effect.
Door-to-door survey and public awareness campaign continues
ASHA workers and trained dengue prevention are regularly investigating from house to house to control dengue. People are being made aware of dengue not to allow water to collect water around their homes, clean coolers and pots and keep the water tanks covered. Public awareness chariots are also being run by the Municipal Corporation, which are informing people about measures to prevent dengue. Along with this, information is also being broadcast through posters and pamphlets in the market areas.
Everyone’s responsibility in fighting dengue
Both the Health Department and the Municipal Corporation believe that the fight with diseases like dengue cannot be won only by government efforts. The participation and vigilance of ordinary citizens is very important in this. Take care of cleanliness yourself, do not spread dirt around and if you have symptoms like fever or body pain, get it checked immediately. Timely awareness, correct treatment and collective efforts are the biggest weapon in the fight against dengue. Caution is security, this mantra needs to be adopted.
