According to the guidelines of the Government of India, a maximum of 9 SIM cards can be purchased on an Aadhaar card. However, for machine to machine (M2M) services this number can increase to 18. M2M services are particularly meant to connect equipment, such as smart home devices and IOT systems used in vehicles.
What problems can happen if you buy more SIM cards?
If you buy more than 9 SIM cards or use them without proper reason, you may have to face the following problems:
SIM card can be blocked: Additional SIM cards can be blocked to protect your identity.
Customer Varification: TRAI and Telecommunications Department periodically examine SIM card users. If the number of SIM cards on your Aadhaar card is found more than the limit, then you can get notice.
The government has launched TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) portal, so that you can know how many SIM cards are registered in your name.
– Go to the TAFCOP website.
– Enter your mobile number.
– After OTP verification, the list of all SIM cards registered in your name will appear.
The rule of taking a limited number of SIM cards on Aadhaar card is to maintain your safety and transparency in the digital system. Avoid taking additional SIM cards and keep checking your SIM card list from time to time.
