The World Athletics Championship will be held next month. There is a delay in the announcement of the Indian team for this. India will announce its squad on Saturday for the World Championships.

All member countries will inform world athletics by Friday that any of their athletes have decided to be out for various reasons. Only then will the athletes be confirmed and then the World Athletics will inform the member countries about them. A top AFI official told PTI, “We will announce the team on August 30. Till then the world athletics is yet to be confirmed.” Meanwhile, 19 Indians led by star javelin throw player Neeraj Chopra have qualified for the World Championships to be held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21 through a direct entry or world rankings in which long jumping player Murali Srishankar managed to make a place at the last time.
But the Asian Games gold winner 3000 meter steeplechase athlete Avinash Sabale is out after ACL surgery. At the same time, Heptathlite Nandini Agasara has told PTI that she is not competing due to not being completely cured of the elbow injury while she qualified for this competition as a Asian champion. This will reduce the number of Indian players who qualify. Srishankar did not play in 2024 Olympics due to knee surgery despite qualifying. He has joined the list of 36 long -jump players competing in Tokyo and is at the final place after the ranking updated by World Athletics (WA) on Wednesday.
