The Indian team will be selected on Tuesday for the Women’s ODI World Cup. Shefali Verma’s form and Renuka Thakur’s fitness will be a challenge for selectors. India will try to win the trophy for the first time.

The Women’s ODI World Cup will be played from 30 September. 8 teams will participate in it. All the matches in Pakistan will be played in Colombo. India will host all other matches of the World Cup and will be eyeing for winning the global trophy for the first time. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will enter the World Cup with great confidence after defeating England in both limited overs series and winning the ODI tri -series against Sri Lanka and South Africa in April. Before the tournament, India will host Australia for the three ODI series to improve its preparations.
Smriti Mandhana has formed a successful pairing with Pritaka Rawal in the top order while Jemima Rodrigues, Harleen Deol and captain Harmanpreet provide adequate strength to the middle order. But will the selectors try to make it more aggressive by bringing Shefali in the team? This is yet to be seen and the officers will also assess Renuka’s fitness who did not go on a tour of England due to injury.
Richa Ghosh will remain the wicketkeeper of the first choice while Yastika Bhatia may be effective backup. With the tournament returning to the subcontinent, there is no doubt that spinners will be the subject of discussion and India have many options in the form of Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and Radha Yadav which have contributed to the success of the team in recent times. Left -handed young spinner N Shri Charani also performed strongly in T20 Internationals against England, giving India’s spin invasion another edge and could become another subject of discussion for the selectors.
After taking six wickets of Kranti Gaur in India’s victory in the third ODI against England, the selectors may be forced to give a chance to this right -handed young fast bowler as his impressive skills and attitude have also been praised by Harmanpreet. In India’s bowling attack, spinners are expected to get more chance but the fitness and availability of all -rounder Amanjot Kaur will also be another discussion to make the combination more balanced.
