The Indian women’s hockey team lost to China and relaxed the FIH Pro League. This is the seventh consecutive defeat in the European phase of India’s FIH Pro League. The Indian team has to face China on Sunday as well.

New Delhi. The Indian women’s hockey team was defeated by China 3–0. After this defeat, the Indian team turned from the FIH Pro League (sliding into the lower league). The defeat against China ensured the team to be at the bottom of the points table. This is the seventh consecutive defeat in the European phase of India’s FIH Pro League. India will have 10 points in 15 matches and the team will play against China again in their last match of 2024-25 FIH Pro League on Sunday. Germany is one notch from India with 13 points with a 0–1 defeat to England in another day match. Even if India defeats China in its last match, it will still reach 12 points.

India, in such a situation, the second level of FIH Pro League in the 2025-26 season was relaxed in the FIH Nations Cup. England ranks seventh in 15 matches with 14 points. Chen Yang (21st minute) and Zhang Ying (26th minute) scored goals from the penalty corner, while Anhul U (45th minute) scored a field goal to give China a memorable victory against India. India started well in the match and reached the circle of China in the first quarter and gave a tough competition to its defense.

Veteran Indian goalkeeper Savita then conducted some spectacular defense, including stopping the reverse hit of Guoting Hao in the 13th minute. With a few seconds of the first quarter, China got a second penalty corner but could not stop the push. China earned two consecutive penalty corners at the beginning of the second quarter but could not take advantage of those occasions. China got another advantage of making a strong start in this quarter in the 21st minute when the team gained another penalty corner under pressure on the Indian protection. Chain Yang made no mistake to convert it into a goal.

China kept pressure on the Indian defense and obtained its fifth penalty corner in the 26th minute. This time Zhang Ying scored a goal scoring the team 2–0. Before the interval, Indians created some opportunities, but as usual failed to take it to the goal post. Indian players dominated with continuous attacks in the initial minutes of the third quarter but failed to penetrate the strong defense of China.

China took advantage of lethargy in Indian defense and tripled its lead with Anhul’s field goal in the 45th minute. India achieved a penalty stroke in the 55th minute in search of their first goal in the match, but Deepika lost a golden opportunity.
