Whatsapp is closed on these iPhone and Android devices from today, see the entire list

New Delhi. Popular instant messaging app Whatsapp is going to stop its support on old smartphones. From 1 June 2025 i.e. today, this messaging platform owned by META will not work on many old android and iOS devices. These steps are part of the company’s regular process, in which support for old operating systems is closed to ensure better security and performance for users on new devices.

Why is Whatsapp supporting?
With more than 3.5 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp is the most really used instant messaging app. However, to effectively roll out new features and safety updates, WhatsApp regularly shuts down support for old software versions that can no longer keep pace with new updates.

Previously, META had fixed the date of ending support May 2025, but later extended it to 1 June so that users could get more time to change the device.

Which iPhones and iOS version impact
Whatsapp will stop working on iphones that are running on the os 15 or earlier versions. The list of these models includes:

iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus
iPhone 6s
iPhone 6s Plus
iPhone SE (1st Gen)

If you have not updated on the iOS 16 or new version (or can’t cause hardware limit), your device will lose WhatsApp access from June 1.

Affected Android Phone and OS version
On Android, Whatsapp will not support the device that is running on Android 5.0 or older versions. The affected models include:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Sony Xperia Z1
Lg g2
Huawei Ascend P6
Moto G (1st Gen)
Motorola razr hd
Moto E (2014)

What should you do immediately
If your phone is in this list or running the old OS, then you should take these steps:
Take a new smartphone that supports iOS 16+ or Android 6.0+.
Backup your WhatsApp chats. For this, go to Settings> Chats> Chat Backup and tap on back up now so that your chats and media are saved on iCloud or Google Drive.

When you setup WhatsApp on your new device, you can restore your chat history from Cloud. This update will affect millions of users who still depend on old phones. To avoid losing access to your messages, photos and videos, backup before 1 June 2025 and change the device.
