New Delhi: The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has implemented the ‘Serious Injury Replacement Rules’ in the domestic tournaments for the upcoming season, improving its sports terms.
The move has been taken after the injury of Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes during the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series between India and England. The new rule informed to the state associations states:
If a player suffers a serious injury during the relevant match, then the substitute player can be allowed under the following circumstances. This serious injury should be engaged during the game area described during the game and in Article 1.2.5.2.
According to the rule, ‘injury should be caused by an external shock and as a result fracture or deep cut or’ dislocation ‘(sliding) etc. Hoy should be unavailable for the remaining match due to this injury. The players who come to replace the Inzard Player will be like to like a replacement. That is, pacer instead of pacer, wicketkeeper in exchange for wicketkeeper.
The rule will be applicable in the multi-day matches of senior and junior domestic tournaments and will start in the Dalip Trophy and Under-19 CK Naidu Trophy from August 28.
Rishabh Pant was fractured in the leg in an attempt to reverse the fourth Test in Manchester, while Vox’s shoulder slipped into a decisive match of the series at Oval. The incident again resurves a debate on whether the players should be allowed to replace them in case of serious injury. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir was in favor of this while England captain Ben Stokes was not in its favor.
1.2.8.1.1: Serious injury should be attached to the game area described during the game and above Article 1.2.5.2.
1.2.8.1.3: Team manager will present a ‘serious injury replacement’ request to BCCI match referee which:
1.2.8.1.3.2: Mention the incident which caused a serious injury and includes the time of injury.
1.2.8.1.3.4: Identify the requested player who will be the same replacement for a serious injury player.
Just in a situation when the wicketkeeper is seriously injured and requires replacement, then any other player of the match referee can allow the wicketkeeper to be allowed, provided that there are no wicketkeeper in the nominated replacement.
1.2.8.3: The BCCI match referee should generally approve a serious injury replacement request only when the replacement is also a player of the same qualification, which will not benefit his team in the remaining part of the match.
1.2.8.5: If the BCCI match referee feels that their team will benefit immensely by incorporating the designated serious injury replacement, then the BCCI match referee can impose conditions on the identification and participation of serious injury replacement and participation that he considers appropriate.
1.2.8.6: The BCCI match referee can request any additional information requested to determine the necessary determination under Article 1.2.8.4 and 1.2.8.5 while reviewing the serious injury replacement request done according to Article 1.2.8.1.3.
1.2.8.8: Once the BCCI match referee approves serious injury replacement, the reputed player will not participate in the match.
1.2.8.9: Both severe injury replacement and replaced feeding will be considered in the match for records and figures purposes.
