New Delhi. The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has approved testing of the time clock system in the selected World Tournaments starting from 2026 to speed up badminton matches. Under which the players will have to be ready for the next rally within 25 seconds after the completion of a rally.

The BWF approved the Time Clock system in its meeting on 29 August. The first test of this system will be done in competitions to be held from 18 to 23 November 2025. After this, it will be widely tested from next year.

The BWF said, ‘These new rules will allow the BWF to test the time clock. These rules also include the experiment under which the players will have to be ready to play the next rally within 25 seconds.

According to the new rules, the players will be given 25 seconds between two rallies and the clock will start after updating the score by the umpire. The BWF said, ‘Players will get freedom to carry out normal activities between rallies, which include wilation from the towel and taking any drinks for which the permission of the umpire is yet to be obtained. But the players will have to be ready for the next rally within 25 seconds.

The BWF gave its decision on a 25 -second rule after analyzing the figures of hundreds of matches of various competitions.
