WFI banned 30 wrestlers.

New Delhi. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has temporarily suspended 30 overseas wrestlers from junior level competitions. This action has been taken after investigating more than 400 cases in the last month. This step has been taken after complaints from coaches and wrestlers of Delhi’s ‘Akharas’. In which it was alleged that many wrestlers of Haryana had made fake birth certificates to participate in junior level competitions.

The WFI official said, “We do not want to ruin the career of wrestlers, so we have banned them only from junior level competitions, such as U18 and cadets. Wrestlers above 18 years of age should compete at senior level and represent their original state.”

The WFI official said, “Out of 436 cases, about 300 were from Narela region, the rest were from areas like Sultanpuri and Mangolpuri. These wrestlers received fake certificates from Begampura to represent Delhi as it is difficult to select in Haryana teams. After complaints, we verified MCD and Delhi Cantonment Board and the certificate was found to be fake,”

The official said, “Coaches should be convicted as they allow their students to compete at junior level to win medals and to gain fame. WFI also reported a female wrestler to submit fake birth certificate to the technical committee of Khelo India Games. The certificate was not issued.
