Violent protests took place in Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Malda districts of West Bengal in protest against the Waqf law.
Bangladeshi connections have come to light in the violence in West Bengal during the opposition of Waqf law. The news agency PTI quoted sources as saying that the violence in Murshidabad between April 10-12 included Bangladeshi fundamentalists, who had helped local leaders of a political party.
The news agency quoted the intelligence report as saying that it was carried out by members of Bangladesh’s two radical organizations- Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in Murshidabad. Central forces have been deployed along with the state police to restore peace and maintain law and order.
The Border Security Force (BSF) posted on the Indo-Bangladesh border has also been directed to keep a strict monitoring, so that illegal infiltration cannot be done in the West Bengal sector. The initial investigation report related to violence has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs today.
2 accused arrested for killing father and son
Father-son was murdered in the Murshidabad violence. Police arrested two people in this case. One accused has been arrested from Birbhum and the other from Bangladesh border. His names are Kalu Nadab and Dildar Nadab. Both of them killed Hargobind Das and Chandan Das.
There were violent protests in Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Malda districts of West Bengal in protest against the Waqf law. Trains were lit, robbery was also looted in shops and houses.
3 people died. 15 policemen were injured. More than 300 people were arrested. The central government has deployed 1600 personnel in violent areas. Among them are 300 BSF soldiers.

Opposition to Waqf law- updates of April 15
- Manipur Congress Executive President Mohammad Fazur Rahim and former MLA Mohammad Amin Shah have filed a case in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025.
- The National Human Rights Commission has announced to visit one of its teams Murshidabad. The report of the inquiry conducted on the spot will be submitted within three weeks.
- The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has also filed an appeal in the Supreme Court to make parties in support of the Waqf Act.
- Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that no protests will be allowed against the Waqf law in the state. The agitators put their side before the Supreme Court.
People said- if you want peace, if BSF is removed, there will be a problem
Here, the situation has become normal in Murshidabad 4 days after the violence. The administration said- The situation is under control in the violence city Dhulian. People are now slowly returning to work. More than 500 people who have migrated from Dhulian are now coming back.
Habib-ur-Rahman, a resident of violence affected Shamsherganj, told the news agency ANI-The atmosphere is quiet after the deployment of BSF and CRPF. The administration has asked us to open shops and maintain discipline. Many people have also demanded permanent deployment of BSF. He says that if the BSF moves, then the situation can deteriorate again.
A shopkeeper said- My entire building was broken. People entered inside and looted the entire belongings. 13.5 lakh rupees went with cash. In total, there has been a loss of about 20-25 lakhs. At the same time, Adhir Ravi Das told- My shop was completely burnt to ashes. There has been a loss of goods worth 6-7 lakh rupees.

Police vehicles lit in 24 parganas on 14 April
The protesters set fire to police vehicles after a clash with police in Shonpur area of South 24 Parganas. The police also lathi -charged.
After Murshidabad, there was a clash between protesters and police in South 24 Parganas on Monday. On Basanti Highway, the police stopped a car carrying a car carrying the Indian Secular Front (ISF) workers, which caused unrest.
In fact, ISF workers and locals from Bhangar, Minakh, Sandakhali blocked the highway at 10 am during the protest. The activists going to Ramlila Maidan surrounded the police. The police had to lathi-charge to disperse them.

TMC allegations- BJP behind Murshidabad violence Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former MP Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP and other political parties behind the Murshidabad violence. He said- We have got input that there was a big conspiracy behind the incidents of violence.
A section of central agencies, BSF and some political parties was involved in this conspiracy. BSF helped and got the miscreants cross the border of the state. Some miscreants entered the area of Murshidabad, spreading anarchy and BSF also helped him back.
Ghosh further said- BJP in its social media posts using pictures of other states and described it as Murshidabad. There is a conspiracy to discredit Bengal with the help of BSF. They are trying to provoke the people of Bengal, so that the BJP can use it for its own benefit.
CM Mamta said- protest, but do not take the law in your hands
Who is playing this dirty game in the name of religion? Religion means faith, love and culture. Religion is a symbol of unity. Why are quarrels, riots and unrest? Everything can be won with love. Do not isolate anyone. We live once and die once. Then why is a riot? People of every caste and religion have the right to oppose, but do not take the law in their hands.

More than 22 petitions filed in Supreme Court, 10 listed
More than 22 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the new Waqf law. Of these, 10 petitions have been listed for hearing. The 3 -member bench of CJI Sanjeev Khanna will hear these on 16 April. Those who filed the petition include political party, leaders, MPs, private and organization (NGOs).
Calcutta High Court will hear the petition filed on violence on April 17
In West Bengal, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court. It demanded the deployment and violence of central force to be investigated by NIA. On April 12, the High Court ordered the deployment of central security forces in violent areas.
A bench headed by Justice Saumen Sen had said- we cannot blind eyes on the reports that have come out. These include barbarity in some districts of the state. Apart from Murshidabad, wherever violence is seen, the Central Security Force should be deployed. The case will be heard on 17 April.
Violence in other states besides West Bengal
- April 11:- Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leader under house arrest Demonstrations took place against Waqf law in Srinagar. Some local organizations and leaders described the law against minority rights. Hurriyat leaders were under house arrest when the situation became tense.
- April 12:- Tripura, 18 policemen injured A rally of 4 thousand people became violent in Unakoti district of Tripura. At least 18 policemen, including the SDPO, were injured. The police then arrested 18 protesters.
- April 13:- Assam: Protesters clashed with police in Silchar The protesters pelted stones at the police in Silchar, Assam. Thousands of people gathered without permission in the Madhurband area. The police tried to stop them. First pushed, then throw stones. The police also had to charge sticks to disperse the crowd. The protesters raised slogans of religious and BJP Murdabad. Tamilga Vetri Kazagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf law.
Muslim Personal Law Board announced, demonstration will run for 87 days
The first phase of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) ‘Waqf Rescue Campaign’ will start from April 11 and will run for 7 July i.e. 87 days. In this, 1 crore signatures will be made in protest against the Waqf law, which will be sent to PM Modi. After this, the strategy of the next phase will be decided.

During the discussion on the bill, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had said- The purpose of the law is to prevent bias, misuse and encroachment in Waqf properties. The bill was supported by 128 members in the Rajya Sabha, 95 protested. This bill was passed in the midnight of 2 April in the Lok Sabha. During this period, 288 MPs voted in support and 232 in protest.
