More than 70 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Bill have been filed in the Supreme Court.
The Central Government of Waqf Amendment Act filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on Friday. It has demanded dismissal of petitions against the validity of Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025.
The Center said, ‘The courts will not stop statutory provisions. Will finally decide the matter. More than 70 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Bill.
The Center said that the constitutionality applies to the laws made by Parliament. Petitions are moving forward on a false grounds that amendments take away the fundamental rights of religious freedom.
The petition stated that the Supreme Court can review the law on the basis of violation of fundamental rights under Legislative Capacity Article 32. The parliamentary panel has been amended after a broad, intensive, analytical study.
The Center has said that provisions have been misused to encroach on private, government properties. Just before the Mughal period, before independence, after independence, overall Waqf was built on 18,29,163.896 acres.
