Vitamin deficiency & migraine: Migraine problems are increasing rapidly in youth. Due to migraine, people start getting unbearable headache and it becomes difficult to get up and sit. Doctors offer medicines to get rid of migraine problem. Experts recommend to pay attention to good lifestyle, adequate sleep, stress management and good diet to get relief from migraine. There can be many reasons for migraine, but sometimes migraine can be caused by some vitamins in the body. In such a situation, information about these vitamins is important. Let’s try to know from the doctor about this.
Dr. Sonia Rawat, director of the Preventive Health and Wellness Department of Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi, told News18 That migraine is a neurological disorder, which causes problems like high headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness and light sensitivity. People often consider this problem as a normal headache, but if the headache persists continuously for a few hours or several days, it can be a sign of migraine. There are many reasons for migraine, including stress, hormonal changes, lack of sleep, and food habits. In the last few years, some vitamin deficiency has also been considered as the main cause of migraine. In such a situation, people should not be negligent about vitamins.
The doctor said that due to deficiency of vitamin B2 i.e. riboflavin, migraine problems can be triggered. Many research has also revealed that vitamin B2 deficiency can trigger migraine. It helps in vitamin energy production and smooth the function of mitochondria. If mitochondrial function is not correct, the brain cells do not get enough energy, which can lead to migraine attacks. Apart from this, vitamin D deficiency is also considered a major cause of migraine. This vitamin strengthens the immune system and controls inflammation. When the level of vitamin D in the body is low, the process of inflammation in the brain may increase, which promotes migraine. Some research has also found that taking vitamin D supplementation has seen improvement in migraine cases.
According to health experts, vitamin B12 is necessary for nervous system and it is directly connected to the brain. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause neurological problems, including migraine. B12 deficiency does not provide the necessary neurotransmitter to the brain, which increases the chances of headache and migraine. Especially in vegetarian people, its deficiency is seen more. Therefore, they should get it investigated from time to time. Apart from this, folic acid i.e. vitamin B9 helps in the formation of new cells in the body and DNA synthesis. Its deficiency can increase the level of an element called homocysteine in the body, which affects blood flow and can give birth to migraine. For women who have hormonal migraine problems, balance of folic acid is necessary.
Now the question is, how can this problem be avoided? On this, the doctor says that migraine is a serious problem, which can be controlled by removing the deficiency of vitamins in addition to the right medications. Migraine can be relieved by maintaining adequate amounts of vitamin B2, vitamin B12, vitamin D and folic acid. If you are often troubled by headache, then get a blood test done and get the vitamin level checked and get proper treatment on time. Small changes in lifestyle and proper intake of nutrients can control your migraine to a great extent.
