New Delhi. Kolkata Thunder Blads defeated Chennai Lions 8 -7 on Monday in the sixth season of ultimate table tennis. Young Ankur Banerjee defeated Kazakhstan’s Kiril Ji 3-0 (4-11 10-11 7-11) in the first men’s singles match, giving the thunder blades a great start.
The world number 36 player China’s Phani Saki defeated Selena Selvakumar of Kolkata 3–0 (11-8 11-10 11-6) and returned Chennai in the match. Arjun and Puirto Rico’s Adriana Diaz of Kolkata faced defeat in the mixed doubles at the hands of Pius Jain and Phani.
In the men’s inverted singles, Aruna Qadri of Nigeria defeated Pius Jain 2–1 (11-3 8-11 11-9). In the deciding women’s singles match, Diaz defeated Poyamanti Baisya of Chennai from 2–1 (11-6 7-11 11-6).
Earlier, former champion Dabang Delhi TTC started its campaign by defeating Jaipur Patriots 11-4 in the first match of the ultimate table tennis (UTT) on Saturday. India’s international player Sreeja Akula gave a comeback to Jaipur Patriots by defeating Spain’s Maria Jiao 2–1 (4-11 11-9 11-10) in the women’s singles.
