U-22 Asian Boxing Championship: 6 boxers paved 6 more medals for India

Bangkok: Two female boxers and four male boxers on Monday entered the semi-finals of the Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships and made six more medals for India.

Priya (female 60 kg), Paranjal Yadav (female 70 kg), Harsh (men’s 60 kg), Neeraj (men 75 kg), Rocky Chaudhary (men 85 kg) and Ishan Kataria (more than men’s 90 kg) confirmed the semi-finals with easy win in their respective matches.

Priya began India’s victory by defeating all Japan’s Kokubu with a unanimous decision of 5–0. Harsh also defeated Munkh-Aardin Erdhenbold of Mongolia by the same margin.

Paranjal became the third boxer to convert the medal for India in the morning session after defeating China’s Menge Zhang in a tough match. Both boxers took an aggressive stand and the Indian boxer won 3–2 in a fragmented decision.

The Under-19 and Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships are being held simultaneously that gives India’s emerging stars a platform to demonstrate their skills and determination against some of Asia’s most difficult rivals.

India has launched a strong party of 40 boxers in which there are 20 boxers in each age group.

On Sunday, two medals in India were already sure when Bhavna Sharma (women 48 kg) and traveler Patel (women 57 kg) reached the semi-finals.

In the evening session, Neeraj continued India’s victory campaign and defeated Jun-Zhang Lynn of Chinese Taipei 5–0 to enter the semi-finals.

After this, Rocky Chaudhary defeated Kazakhstan’s Ajatbek Joldasakhan 4–1 and secured the fifth medal of the day for the country.

Ishan Kataria defeated Iran’s Saidyusaf Mausvi, dominating when the referee stopped her in the middle and declared her winner.

On Monday, only Sagar lost in the men’s 55 kg quarter -finals.
