New Delhi. Outgoing Ajay Singh became the president of the Indian Boxing Federation for the third consecutive time. He defeated Jasalal Pradhan in the election held after a long wait. The election, which had been postponed for more than six months amid the legal battle, took place in the presence of Election Officer Rajesh Tandon and BFI’s interim committee head in Singapore’s Feruz Mohammad, who was sent by world boxing as an observer.

World Boxing President Boris van der Worst and General Secretary Mike McAT were to be observers in the election but they did not participate in it. The Ministry of Sports and the Indian Olympic Association also did not send any supervisors. SpiceJet Airlines managing director Singh won the election 40-26. The new general secretary of the federation will be Pramod Kumar of Uttar Pradesh who replaced Hemanta Kalita of Assam.

Kalita was disqualified from contesting elections after completing the tenure of four years in a row as the officer has to complete the period of rest in the middle. Pon Bhaskaran of Tamil Nadu was elected treasurer. The result of the election will depend on the result of the case going on in the Delhi High Court.

Many state units challenged the constitutional amendments made by the interim committee operating the Dainandini functioning of BFI. Elections were to be held earlier on March 28, but many petitions, appeals and copy of appeals were postponed.
