New Delhi. Cricket teams of India and England will fight for Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy from Friday. It was earlier known as Pataudi Trophy, whose name has now changed. Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson unveiled the trophy of this name a day before the Test series started. The England and Wales Cricket Board says that Pataudi’s legacy will not suffer any kind of harm. The captain of the team winning the series will be given the Pataudi medal. India’s England tour is 45 days.

The great batsman Sachin Tendulkar said that as soon as he came to know that the trophy was being renamed for the Test series between India and England, he contacted the family of late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. And assured them that the captain’s association with this series would not end. The Pataudi Trophy has been renamed Anderson -Tendulkar Trophy after Tendulkar and former England fast bowler James Anderson. This decision has been taken by England and Wales Cricket Board and BCCI together.

Sachin Tendulkar said in an interview to PTI, ‘I know that BCCI has retired the Pataudi Trophy a few months ago. But when I came to know that it is being named after me and Anderson, I first called the Pataudi family. Tiger Pataudi has played a big role in inspiring many generations which cannot be forgotten. The Pataudi family will be connected to the series as it has now been decided to give the new ‘Pataudi Excellence Medal’ to the victorious captain. It took place after several rounds of talks between Tendulkar and former BCCI secretary and current Chairman of ICC and top officials of ECB.

I am very happy to have a trophy in my name: Tendulkar
Tendulkar said, ‘I talked to him. I told everything. I also said that we have to make every effort to keep the Pataudi heritage alive. After this, I spoke to Shah and ECB officials and gave some suggestions. Because Pataudi played a big role in inspiring many generations which cannot be forgotten. I am glad that it has been decided to give a medal in his honor. I am glad that all phone calls and conversations yielded positive results. I first visited England in 1988. My first flight was from Mumbai to London. Now I am very happy to have a trophy in my name.
