New Delhi: James Cameron did not suddenly decide to show the green blue world of Pandora. He worked with the entire plan to make his blockbuster film ‘Avatar’ sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. The filmmaker said that the 2009 film ‘Avatar’ earned fiercely at the box office, based on a fictional moon, which has been settled by a original tribe named Navi.
He said, ‘The response to the people of all cultures and the world was that we want it more. People said the same later. I did not want to leave, I wanted to be there. James Cameron told PTI in a virtual group interview, “As an artist, I have already made a place in the hearts and minds of people around the world.”
The filmmaker said that along with making the sequel, he had to do a lot of introspection. He further says, ‘I thought about it for a few years before deciding to move forward. This was not a sudden decision. I had to question myself as a filmmaker, as an artist. Is this something I want to do and dedicate my life? Because when you make this kind of film, you really do this. This is 100 percent.
Giving the example of Steven Spielberg’s classic ‘ET the Extra-Taresterial’, Cameron said that as a storyteller someone needs a better reason to return to the franchise and it cannot be money.
