Riots were about something else, but this movie was stuck in Hindu-Muslim issue

Highlights

  • Still Dil Hai Hindustani flogged
  • But Shah Rukh and Juhi starrer songs are still heard
  • There was a lot of controversy over the riot scene in the film

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla’s ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’ has become one of Bollywood’s most famous Comedy-Drama in the last few years. Directed by Aziz Mirza, the 2000 film, directed by Aziz Mirza, did not get any significant response in the beginning, but later its satirical accents caught the attention of the people. The film was produced by Shah Rukh, Juhi and Aziz under a new production house, which was made by the three for this project. Once again, this film and its star cast have come in Limelight, which is because of the interview of director Aziz Mirza.

It has been 25 years since the film was released and Mirza told how the story of ‘Stir Dil Hai Hindustani’ and its expressions echo in today’s socio-political atmosphere. Especially the song of the film is liked by the people and from August 15 to January 26, the title song is heard a lot.

Hindustani is still stuck in Hindu Muslim
Recently, in an interview to Redit, the director said about the film, ‘If you see the film even today, then it is equally relevant. You see small things like that he conducts riots himself and then sits in the havan to stop the riots. Riots were about something else, but they turned it into a Hindu-Muslim issue so that attention would be removed. All these things are seen. In the conversation, he also shared his son’s perspective on the sarcastic accent of the film, ‘I wish people would see that film again. My son says that I should have made the film seriously instead of satire – then people could understand it better. But I made it the same as I saw it.

Directors were struggling with financial crisis
Apart from the film, in the same interview, Aziz remembered the early days of the establishment of his production house. He had decided to invest five lakh rupees in the company, because at that time he was going through financial crisis and could not contribute much. Nobody questioned him and finally his total invest was only five lakh rupees.

Still the heart was flopped
Let me tell you that Shah Rukh, Juhi, Satish Shah, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Shakti Kapoor and Dalip Tahil were also in the lead roles in the film ‘Stir Dil Hai Hindustani’. The film flopped badly at the box office but its songs were highly appreciated. 13 crore was spent to make it and it collected 18 crores.
