Home Minister Amit Shah announced an alliance with AIADMK in Chennai on Friday. He said that in 2026, the Tamil Nadu assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of AIADMK chief E Palaniswami. The seat -sharing will be decided after discussion later.
Shah said that there is no demand or demand of AIADMK regarding the alliance. The party’s joining the NDA is very beneficial for both.

In September 2023, the then Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai was separated from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) NDA due to some comments made.
234 seats in Tamil Nadu, Shah said- will also be CMP if needed
In response to a question in the press conference, Shah said that AIADMK has different stance on some issues. But we will sit and discuss this, if needed, there will also be a minimum shared program (Common Minimum Program, CMP).
Annamalai also back down from State President election
Here, the name of the state president of the party also came up on Friday. BJP MLA from Thirunelveli, Nayanar Nagendran can become the next state president of BJP. It has not been officially announced. But according to an X post by Shah, Nayanar was proposed by the current party chief K. Annamalai.
AIADMK-BJP alliance got only 75 seats in the last election
In the last assembly elections held in 2021, DMK won 133 out of the total 234 seats in the state. The DMK alliance won a total of 159 seats. The NDA alliance could win only 75 seats. AIADMK got 66 seats. The BJP won 4 seats. Other coalition parties got 5 seats.
AIADMK ruled the kingdom for two consecutive terms (2011-2021). After the victory, MK Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state. Edappadi K. AIADMK led by Palaniswami took over as opposition party in the sixteenth Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Not a single seat was received in the Lok Sabha elections
The 2021 assembly elections were also contested by AIADMK and BJP in alliance. After this, BJP and AIADMK contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in separate alliance, but the DMK also won that election. It was considered a shock for AIADMK and BJP.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 Lok Sabha seats. The India alliance, led by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has won all seats. DMK has won 22, Congress 9, CPI, M) and VCK 2-2 and MDMK and IUML have won one seat each.
Congress has also won one seat of neighboring union territory Puducherry. AIADMK and BJP -led NDA could not even open an account.
