The Supreme Court reprimanded the Navy for not giving permanent commission to one of its female officers. The court told the Navy officials that it has been enough now, they should renounce their ego and improve their ways.
In fact, the bench of Justices Suryakant and N. Kotishwar Singh was hearing the petition of Seema Chaudhary, a 2007 batch short service commission officer on Tuesday, who was not given a permanent commission despite the court order.
The bench asked the officials whether the officials concerned wonder whether they could suppress the court orders. What kind of disciplined army are you. We give you a week to give a permanent commission to the female officer, after the summer holidays, inform the court.

Who is Seema Chaudhary, what is this whole matter
Seema Chaudhary was appointed as SSC officer on 6 August 2007 at the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch of the Indian Navy. He was promoted as Lieutenant in 2009 and Lieutenant Commander in 2012. In 2016 and 2018, two years of service extension was given. On 5 August 2020, he was told that his service would be considered terminated from 5 August 2021.
The border reached the Supreme Court against this order, he appealed that they were not given a permanent commission, while they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
On 26 February 2024, the Supreme Court gave a decision on the review petition of Seema Chaudhary, saying that his case should be seen on Standalone Base.
Comments written in Seema’s ACR stopped permanent commission
Navy officials and Senior Advocate Ralasubramaniam, appearing for the Center, said that he examined all the criteria, but there were adverse comments in the three Annual Confidential Reports (ACR) of the border, which could not be ignored to pay permanent commission.
On this, the bench said that the comments of the initial officials were rejected by the review officer. Also, the Final Authority also gave him a full 7.6 marks. Balasubramaniam said that not his marks but comments were obstructed.
