Dr. Sonia Rawat, director of the Preventive Health and Wellness Department of Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi, told News18 That the right amount of salt and sugar is necessary for the body. Salt is necessary to maintain fluid balance in the body. Salt is also necessary for functioning of muscles and nervous systems. However, eating high amounts of salt increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. Talking about sugar on the other hand, sugar gives energy to the body. Excessive intake of it increases the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and oral problems. In this case, both salt and sugar should be consumed in balanced quantity.
Now the question is, what amount should both be consumed? According to the doctor, an adult should eat only 5 grams i.e. about 1 teaspoon of salt. Eating more salt than this can be very harmful. Talking about sugar, people should not eat more than 25 grams (about 5-6 teaspoons) in a day. Nowadays the biggest problem related to salt and sugar is that it is found in hidden form. If you understand in easy language, junk foods, sauces, packaged snacks and drinks have high amounts of sodium and sugar. In such a situation, it is good to avoid consuming them. Excessive intake of sugar can also cause insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, due to which the body becomes home to many diseases.
What is more dangerous in salt and sugar? On this, Dr. Sonia Rawat said that eating more salt and sugar than the limit is harmful for health. If both things are eaten excessively, then you can cause death. However, sugar can be considered more dangerous for health, as it gradually damages the body. Sugar addiction is also easy and it is difficult to leave. If salt is also eaten more, then there can be a serious threat to the heart. In such a situation, balanced consumption of both is better for health.
