Starlink India Connection only to these customers know what is starlink and how it is different to know price- What is this special in the starlink

Alan Musk’s satellite internet service provider company Starlink is ready to start its services in India. The Government of India has recently granted Satellite Communications (SATCOM) license to Starlink. However, Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandrashekhar has made it clear that Starlink will be able to provide only 2 million connections in India due to lack of spectrum capacity. In terms of India’s population of 140 crores, this number may look very low. However, it is worth noting here that the current network capacity of Starlink is limited and that is why this company has only 5 million customers worldwide.

So let’s understand in an detail what this starlink is, how it works, if you want to take a connection in India, then how much your pockets may have to be loosened…

What is Starlink?

Starlink is Alan Musk’s Spacex company’s satellite based internet service, aiming worldwide and especially in rural and remote areas, providing high speed and unstable internet. Compare already existing satellites with internet services, where space is used in space with geostationary satellites at 35,786km height, while Starlinks uses low meaning orbit satellites, which revolve around a height of 540-570km. This makes a short distance data transmission quite sharp, causing services like live streaming, online gaming and video calling can be done without any hindrance.

How does Starlink work?
Starlink works through this low meaning orbit satellite network. These satellites revolve around 540 to 570 kilometers from the surface of the Earth and send the internet signal directly to the customer’s terminal (a type of dish antenna).

This is different from traditional fiber or mobile tower -based network, as it does not require any cable or mobile tower. Because of this it is extremely useful for places where the network is difficult to reach now- such as mountainous areas, villages in the forests or the island of remote.

What can be the role of Starlink in India?
According to the Government of India, Starlink has a network throughput capacity up to 600 GBPS, that is, it can transfer so much data simultaneously across India. It will be used especially in areas where companies like BSNL already exist, but services are weak, or where the network has not yet reached.

Union Minister of State for Telecom, Dr. Pammasani Chandrashekhar has said that Starlink has been approved to provide a maximum of 20 lakh connections in India. This limit has been decided in view of the company’s current satellite capacity.

What can be the charge of Starlink in India?
Starlink plans to bring a consumer broadband plan around Rs 3,000 monthly in India. This will be more expensive than existing service providers like Jio, Airtel, or BSNL, but it is considered economical in terms of satcom technology. That is, Starlink can provide much cheaper service in India as compared to other countries.

Although the price of Rs 3,000 can be quite expensive for villages and common consumers, it can become the only option in areas where there is no access to internet.

Is telecom companies a threat from Starlink?
Not now… According to Minister Chandrashekhar, the user base of Starlink will be limited and it will only give speed up to 200 Mbps. In such a situation, this is not a serious challenge for telecom giants like Jio or Airtel, especially in the urban market.

Starlinks have received a SATCOM license from the telecom department and satellite permission from IN-Space. Now the company will start creating ground infrastructure in India, and for this it will import some equipment, for which it will have to get permission from DOT.

Starlink can bring a new revolution in the field of internet service in India, especially in rural areas. Although its cost may be high and the number of users will be limited, but in terms of technological expansion, it is being considered a major step in India’s digital expansion. As its capacity and coverage will increase in the coming years, this can bring a big change in broadband access.
