Today Eid-ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid is being celebrated across the country. After the Pahalgam terror attack, people also offered prayers in mosques in Jammu and Kashmir. However, Jama Masjid in Srinagar remained closed on Eid-ul-Azha for the seventh consecutive year. Jama Masjid has been locked due to security reasons after Article 370 is removed in 2019.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah objected to this. He said, ‘I do not know the basis of the decision to keep the Jama Masjid closed, but we have to learn to trust our people. These are the same people who opposed the Pahalgam attack. The Center should think about allowing Namaz in the historic Jama Masjid.
Mehbooba Mufti, former CM of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also questioned the decision to keep the mosque closed. The former CM said, ‘Jama Masjid is locked on Eid day. This is against our religion. CM Omar Abdullah has been under house arrest. If all is well then why is all this being done?

Its architecture was designed by British architects, which is called Indo-Society architecture. 33333 people can offer Namaz simultaneously in the mosque. The prayer hall of the mosque stands on 370 khabhas. All these pillars are made of thick stems of cedar.

Also, the state was divided into 2 parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Article 370 was a provision of the Constitution of India, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
