Today Eid-ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid is being celebrated across the country. After the Pahalgam terror attack, people also offered prayers in mosques in Jammu and Kashmir. However, Jama Masjid in Srinagar remained closed on Eid-ul-Azha for the seventh consecutive year. Jama Masjid has been locked due to security reasons after Article 370 is removed in 2019.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah objected to this. He said, ‘I do not know the basis of the decision to keep the Jama Masjid closed, but we have to learn to trust our people. These are the same people who opposed the Pahalgam attack. The Center should think about allowing Namaz in the historic Jama Masjid.
Mehbooba Mufti, former CM of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also questioned the decision to keep the mosque closed. The former CM said, ‘Jama Masjid is locked on Eid day. This is against our religion. CM Omar Abdullah has been under house arrest. If all is well then why is all this being done?
People’s entry in Jama Masjid in Srinagar remained closed on Bakrid for the 7th consecutive year.
In 2018, masked youth placed ISIS flag on the mosque Jama Masjid in Nauhatta, Srinagar is the largest mosque in Jammu and Kashmir. It is also called a Friday mosque. On 28 December 2018, after the prayers of Jumme, some masked youths in the Jama Masjid laid the flag of ISIS.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, which was very criticized. On 5 August 2019, after the removal of Article 370, the government banned the Namaz in the Jama Masjid. The Covid-19 epidemic behind the closure of the mosque was also cited as a reason.

Jama Masjid was built in 1404 Sultan Sikander Shahmiry started the Jama Masjid in Srinagar in 1394. It was prepared in 1404. The mosque was destroyed due to many often disputes in olden times and reconstructed each time.
The last time Maharaja Pratap Singh built it under his supervision and has been fine since then. From 1820 to 1846, it was closed during the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It was repaired after about 250 years in 2018.
This mosque is built on Indian and Mughal artwork. Its architecture was designed by British architects, which is called Indo-Society architecture. 33333 people can offer Namaz simultaneously in the mosque. The prayer hall of the mosque stands on 370 khabhas. All these pillars are made of thick stems of cedar.
Center removed Article 370 in 2019 The Modi government at the Center abolished Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August 2019 in its second term. Also, the state was divided into 2 parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Article 370 was a provision of the Constitution of India, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
