Singapore Open: Satvik-Chirag’s return, Lakshya Sen injured and out

Singapore: India’s top men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty returned to the Singapore Open Super 750 badminton tournament here on Wednesday, while Lakshya Sen was disappointed and had to leave the match between the initial time due to injury.

The pair came out on the court for the first time after being removed from the All England Open in March due to Chirag’s back injury, but they performed a brilliant game and defeated Malaysia’s Chong Hon Gian and Muhammad Hykal 21-16 21-13 within just 40 minutes.

This was Satvik and Chirag’s second win over the 41st ranked Malaysian pair. The Indian pair is currently ranked 27th in the world.

Earlier this month, the pair did not even play in Sudiraman Cup, as they were struggling with sattvic health problems. Earlier, he reached the semi -finals in both Malaysia Open and India Open in this session.

India’s number one single player Sen had to be out due to injury during his first round against Chinese Taipei’s Lynn Chun-Yay.

Currently, 17th place in the world, Sen made a good start and won the first game 21-15. But number 19 in the world, Lynn made a comeback and won the second game by winning 21-17 and made the score equal.

In the decisive game, Sen was trailing 5–13 before retiring due to injury. The true nature of Sen’s injury has not been known.

In the mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde defeated the American pair of Chen Jhi Yi and Franceska Corbett 21-16 21-19 in 35 minutes to enter the pre-quarterfinals.

In the women’s singles, Acharya Kashyap lost 21-17, 13-21, 7-21 in the world’s fourth number fourth player Han You in 58 minutes.
