Ambati Rayudu said that Shreyas should be made the captain of the ODI team after Rohit. According to Ambati Rayudu, who plays 55 ODIs and 6 T20 International matches from 2013 to 2019, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer should become the next ODI captain after Rohit Sharma. Under the captaincy of Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders won the 2024 IPL title. Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings reached IPL finals in 2020 and 2025 respectively under Shreyas.

In ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer scored a total of 530 runs in 11 matches. Which includes 105 runs against the New Zealand team in the first semi -finals played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 15 November 2023.
