ISRO Astronaut and Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will leave for the International Space Station (ISS) on June 11, today. Indian time will fly at 5.52 pm Indian time.
Shubhanshu Shukla is part of the crew of 4 members who are going ISS for the Axiam mission. This crew will reach ISS at 10 pm on June 12 after traveling for about 28 hours. Shubhanshu will play the role of a pilot in this mission. His mission will be 14 days.
For the first time an Indian citizen will visit ISS
After Sunita Williams returns to the land, for the first time in the country’s space history, an Indian International Space Station (ISS) will travel. Shubhanshu will travel to ISS through Spacex’s dragon spacecraft.
The mission will be launched from the US Space Agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration ie Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

NDA cleared and become IAF pilot
Shubhanshu Shukla is originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His early education was completed from City Montessori School in Aliganj, Lucknow. After 12th, he cleared the entrance exam of the National Defense Academy (NDA) and from here he earned a graduation degree.
The NDA is a major institution training for officer cadets for the Armed Forces (Army Army, Navy and Air Force) in India. Along with training, it also gives academic degree, which is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

Flying Experience of over 2,000 hours
Shubhanshu was included in the fighter wing of the Indian Air Force on 17 June 2006. He is an experienced fighter and test pilot. He has a flying experience of over 2,000 hours. He has flown fighter jets like Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG-21, MiG-29, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier and AN-32.

In March 2024, Shubhanshu was promoted on the post of Group Captain. He is also a fighter combat leader.
In 2019, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chose him as one of the 4 astronauts for India’s first Human Space Mission, Gaganyaan. The other three include Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, and Group Captain Angad Pratap.

After joining the Gaganyaan Mission, he took hard Astronaut training between 2019-2021 at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonott Training Center in Russia. Then returning to India, Shubhanshu also took training at ISRO’s Astronaut Training Facility Center in Bangalore.
PM Modi gave astronaut wings
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on February 27, 2024 to inaugurate 3 space infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,800 crore.
During this, he reviewed the country’s first mand space mission Gaganyaan. Also announced the names of Astronauts to be sent on Gaganyaan Mission and gave them astronaut wings.

Prime Minister Modi announced the names of Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla on 27 February. He was given Astronaut Wings.
On 27 February 2024, Shubhanshu Shukla was officially announced for the Axiom Mission 4 (AX-4). The announcement was made under cooperation between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Axiam Space.
Axiom Mission is organized in collaboration with NASA and Spacex
Axiom Mission 4 (AX-4) is a private space flight mission for the International Space Station (ISS). It is being operated by the American company Axiom Space.
This mission is being organized in collaboration with NASA and Spacex and is the fourth mission of the Axiaom Space. Earlier, AX-1, AX-2, and AX-3 missions have been completed.
It is planned to launch it from March to June 2025. The mission will be launched by Falcon 9 rocket from Florida, America’s Kennedy Space Center (LC-39A) or Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (SLC-40). This mission will be 14 days.
Apart from Shubhanshu Shukla, the Ex-Mission consists of 3 members-

Hungary’s Tibor Kapu, ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, former NASA astronaut Paigi Whitson, and European Space Agency astronaut Slavoj Uznanski-Vizniavski (left from left).
1. PEGGY Whitson – American astronaut, former NASA member and Human Space Flight Director of Axiaom Space. She will go as the commander of the mission.
2. Slavose Uznansi-Vizniavski Astronauts of the European Space Agency (ESA) of Poland. This will be Poland’s first ISS mission. They will go as Mission Specialists.
3. Tibor Kapu (Tibor Kapu) – Hungarian astronauts. This will also be the first ISS mission of Hungary. They will also go as Mission Specialists.
This will be India’s first ISS mission. Also, in 1984, Rakesh Sharma is the second Indian mission to go into space.
