New Delhi. The Government of India has been pointing to an indigenous Large Language Model (LLM) for the last few months. Remind, earlier this year, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that an AI model would be ready in 10 months, which will compete with big players like Chatgpt and Deepsek. But this is not all. In February, during the Paris AI Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is on the way to develop its Large Language Model (LLM).
And now the country is taking steps to realize it. Under the India AI Mission, the government has finally selected Sarvam to make India’s autonomous Large Language Model (LLM). Sarvam AI of Bengaluru will be the first company to receive government assistance to create a Swadeshi AI Large Language Model (LLM).
Voice will be based and will serve in Indian languages
For the first time, Sarvam is going to get a computing resources dedicated to develop a completely native foundational model. According to the official announcement, this model will have the ability to argue, will be based on voice, serve in Indian languages ββand will be designed for safe, mass deployment.
The announcement also stated that this model will be made in India itself, which will depend on the domestic infrastructure and the new generation of Indian talent will prepare it. The objective of this initiative is to encourage innovation in the country and strengthen India’s status in the field of artificial intelligence.
India’s LLM model: 3 models of Sarvam

3. Sarvam-edge compact for on-device works.
