Dubai: Indian media veteran Sanjog Gupta was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) led by Jai Shah on Monday.

He will replace Australia’s Geoff Alardis, who resigned from his post before the Champions Trophy earlier this year, citing personal reasons.

The highest institution of cricket said that it received more than 2,500 applications from 25 countries for this post, out of which 12 candidates were shortlisted.

These names were sent to the nomination committee, including ICC Vice President Imran Khwaja, Richard Thompson, President of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva and Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) Devjit Saikia.

Its statement at the ICC also mentioned the role of Gupta in promoting and promoting global competitions like Pro Kabaddi League and other leagues like Indian Super League (Football) and global competitions like Premier League and Wimbledon.

Sanjog Gupta started his career as a journalist and he joined Star India (now Geostar) in 2010. He was appointed as the head of sports in Disney and Star India in 2020. After the merger of Viacom 18 and Disney Star in November 2024, Gupta was appointed as CEO of Geostar Sports.

The post of CEO of ICC has earlier held Australia’s David Richards, Malcolm Speed ​​and Alardis, South Africa’s David Richardson and Aaron Lorgat and India -born Manu Sahni.
