Highlights
- Torai cools the body in summer.
- Torai is beneficial in digestion and diabetes.
- Torai is also beneficial in skin problems and jaundice.
The scientific name of Torai is ‘Luffa Acutangula’. This plant is found in India, China, Japan, Egypt and many parts of South-East Asia. In traditional medicine, it is used in the treatment of many diseases, such as jaundice, diabetes, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, headache, skin problems and leprosy. Its special thing is that it contains some natural ingredients that act like insulin in the body, due to which it is also considered very beneficial for diabetes patients.
In summer, when the body starts getting tired quickly and sweating comes more, at that time the luffa gives coolness to the body. The amount of water in it is good, due to which the body temperature remains balanced and also protects from dehydration. Apart from this, its regular intake improves the skin and also gives mental relief. In some home remedies, it is also used for hair and skin care.
Another interesting use of Torai is that when it dries completely, its peel is taken out and used as a ‘loofa’. It is used as a scrubber for bathing in villages. It is completely natural and environmentally friendly, as it does not harm like plastic and gradually gets into the soil.
