Around 10 lakh devotees arrived during the chariot yatra of Lord Jagannath, which started on Friday in Puri. But about 600 people fell ill due to the scorching heat and getting caught in congestion. Many people had to be hospitalized.

Puri CDMO Dr. Kishore Satpathy said that some people complained of minor injuries, vomiting and unconsciousness. Many were discharged after initial treatment. There are no casualties. About 70 are undergoing treatment in the district hospital, out of which 9 are in critical condition.

Many people were also reported injured near Balagandi area. Actually, the chariot of Lord Balabhadra was trapped here for more than an hour. Due to this a crowd gathered there.

Many people were injured while trying to get out of the crowd, these people were immediately rushed to hospitals with the help of volunteers.

When the chariot of Lord Balabhadra stopped at Balagandi Chak, Darpadalan of Goddess Subhadra was stopped at Marichakot in Puri city. Meanwhile, the Nandighosh chariot of Lord Jagannath was only symbolically drawn under the ritual. It stood near the main temple since the announcement of stopping the journey at 8 pm.

Here, the Rath Yatra will start again at around 10 am after Mangla Aarti and Khichdi Bhog. Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra will go to Gundicha temple at aunt’s house about 3 km away.
