New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the contribution of hockey star Vandana Kataria to the game. PM Modi said that playing in 320 international matches in his brilliant career is a proof of his skill and leadership. Which played an important role in furthering Indian hockey. Kataria, the Indian women’s hockey player who played the most matches, announced his retirement from international sports earlier this month, ending her 15 -year career. The 32 -year -old striker scored 158 goals in 320 matches for India and was part of the national team that secured the historic fourth position in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Born in Roshanabad, Haridwar, Kataria was born from a simple background. His father worked as a technician at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). He struggled to become a legendary Indian hockey player, struggling with caste-based and gender-based abuses as well as poor health and depression.

Kataria is the first and only Indian woman to make a hat -trick in the Olympics. The PM wrote, ‘There have been many such occasions in your career which will always be fresh in the minds of fans. One of these 2020 Tokyo Olympics includes your hat -trick against South Africa, which will be remembered for a long time. As a player, it is a big challenge to live up to the expectations of crores of sports lovers and to continuously enhance themselves.
