This summit is being done to bring investors on one platform for the northeastern states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Rising North East Investors Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi at around 10:30 am today. The two -day summit will have Minister Level Sessions, Business to Government (B2G), Business to Business (B2B) meetings.
This summit is being done to bring domestic and global investors on one platform for the northeastern states. The summit plans to promote investment in sectors like tourism, agriculture, food processing, health, education and energy.
GSDP was Rs 9.26 lakh crore in 2023-24 in these sectors from the northeastern states. It increased by 10.8% from 2014-15 to 2021-22 while the average of the country was 8.1% during this period.
Investment proposals of more than ₹ 1 lakh crore came Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of North Eastern Development, had said on 14 May that investment proposals of more than Rs 1 lakh crore have come in the northeastern states. Ambassadors from more than 75 countries participated in the meeting of ambassadors on 15 April to give exposure to foreign investors.
The eight northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim are called ‘Ashtalakshmi’. Ashtalakshmi Festival was organized in December 2024 to promote economic opportunity in areas such as North-East handicrafts, agricultural products and tourism.
At the inauguration of Ashtalakshmi Festival, PM Modi said that earlier governments did not pay attention to the development of North-East, as the North-East had less votes and there were less seats here. A separate ministry was created for the development of North-East during Atal ji’s government.
He said that Union Ministers made 700 trips to the Northeast in the last decade. We are connecting the Northeast to the trinity of emotion, economy and ecology. During the last 10 years, we have tried to reduce the sense of Delhi and heart difference with the Northeast.
