PM Modi left from New Delhi at 8:20 am on 15 June and reached Cyprus at 5:30 pm. Will go to Canada today.
Today is the second day of PM Modi’s Cyprus tour. Cyprus President Nicos Christodolidase will welcome Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After which they will discuss the delegation level. After this, Modi will leave to Canada to participate in the G7 Summit.
Modi reached Cyprus on Sunday. He was welcomed by laying a red carpet at the airport. After this he went to Limasol. Met the Indian community outside the hotel. The children were caressed. Also raised slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai.

The third Indian PM to go to Modi Cyprus Modi is the third Indian Prime Minister to visit Cyprus. Earlier in 1983, Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited this country in 2002.

4 motives of PM’s visit, message to China and Turkas
1. Participation in IMEC Corridor: Cyprus is part of the Indo-Central East-Europe Corridor (IMEC). Energy and business relations from India to Europe will be strengthened through this project. It includes UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel and European Union countries.
The US has also supported this initiative in response to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). At the same time, Cyprus and Greece together started the ‘Greece-India Business Council’ this year.
2. Message to Turkas on supporting Pakistan: There has been a dispute between Turki and Cyprus since 1974. In 1974, the Turki illegally occupied a part of Cyprus and named North Cyprus. He is constantly trying to recognize ‘North Cyprus’ with Pakistan.
Pakistan also recently mentioned ‘North Cyprus’ on the issue of Kashmir, which is angry with the Cyprus government. The Turki recently supported Pakistan during the ‘Operation Sindoor’. Modi’s visit is being linked to this.
3. With India on Kashmir issue: Cyprus is to preside over the Council of European Union in 2026. Cyprus has always supported India on the Kashmir issue and has also promised to raise in favor of India in EU against terrorism coming from POK. At the same time, India recognized Cyprus soon after independence in 1960. Diplomatic relationship formed in 1962.
4. India’s support in UN and NSG: Cyprus has openly supported for permanent membership, Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) membership in India’s United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
At the same time, India has always supported Cyprus’ sovereignty and reunion of the illegal occupied area of Turkas on different international forums. Indian General KS Thimaiya, PS Gyani and DP Chand were commanders in the UN Peace Mission. General Thimaiya died in Cyprus in 1965, he is remembered there with great respect.

16-17 June: G7, Modi will join Canada for sixth consecutive time
PM will participate in the G7 Summit held at Kananaskis, Alberta province, Canada. India got this invitation just 10 days before the commencement of the summit.
This will be PM Modi’s first meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney. Mark Carney became the new PM of Canada on 14 March after Justin Trudeau’s resignation in January 2025. During the time of Justin Trudeau, India-Canada relations were soured.
June 18: Croatia, first visit to an Indian Prime Minister PM will also visit Croatia on 18 June. This will be an Indian Prime Minister’s first visit to Croatia. He will hold bilateral conversations with PM Andrez Plankovic in Jagreb, the capital of Croatia and will also meet President Joran Milanovich.
Diplomatic relations between India and Croatia began from 9 July 1992. On this day, India recognized Croatia as an independent country. Since then there is strong diplomatic relations between the two countries.
