At the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, Nupur Sheoran defeated Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sutimboeva to secure India’s first medal, Nikhat lost in the quarterfinals.

Liverpool. The day was mixed for Indian players from the World Boxing Championship. Fans were disappointed with star boxer Nikhat Zarine being out of the championship, while there was good news of a medal being confirmed. The medal contender had to return disappointed after losing two -time champion Nikhat Zarine. Heavyweight boxer Nupur Sheoran ensured the first medal for India in the current World Boxing Championships. On Wednesday, he defeated Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sutimboeva and made it to the semi -finals. At the same time, Nikhat Zarine had to face defeat in the quarterfinal match.
Nikhat lost in the match already considered difficult. Turkish’s Kakiroglu Bouses Naz won 5–0 against him. Nupur, granddaughter of the great boxer Hawa Singh, defeated his opponent 4–1 in his first match of the championship and made it to the last four of the class over 80 kg. Only 10 boxers are participating in this category. With this victory, Nupur confirmed at least bronze medal. Even if the boxers who have made it to the semi -finals, their medals are given. After gold and silver, two bronze medals get the third and fourth boxer.
