In another important match of the second round, Hikaru Nakamura defeated the world number one Magnus Carlson in Armagadon Tie-Breck. Carlson defeated Gukesh in the first round.

Gukesh, who is considered to be the strong contender for the title in the double round-robin open category with six players, is at the bottom of the points table after losing the first two rounds.

Arigasi said, “I am a little surprised as to why Gukesh wasted so much time initially.”

Arigasi will play from Fabiano Karuana in the third round, while Gukesh will expect a return against Nakamura, one of the best players of Rapid and Blitz Chess.
