Bihar Election: A new change is going to happen regarding voting before the Bihar assembly elections. Bihar is going to become the first state in the country where voting can be done via phone. Bihar State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad has given this information on Friday. His statement came before the voting for six city councils of Patna, Rohtas and East Champaran on Saturday. However, it is not clear at the moment whether voting will be held via phone in the upcoming assembly elections.

Who can do e-votes?

This facility will be available to those who cannot vote at the polling station. He said that to vote online, voters’ phones should have an app installed. Senior citizens, disabled, pregnant women and voters living in other states can avail this facility. The State Election Commission had also launched an awareness campaign in this regard from June 10 to June 22.

To avail this facility, voters have to install the E-SECBHR app. After this, it will have to be linked to the number connected in the voter list. This app will currently work only on Android phones. This app has been created by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing, while there is another app which has been created by the Bihar Election Commission.

How will there be security arrangements?
The biggest fear about e-voting is the possibility of tampering with it. Responding to this question, the Election Commission said that many efforts have been made to keep the voting process smooth, fair and transparent. For example, only two registered voters will be allowed to log in using a mobile number. Apart from this, every voter will be identified with voter ID card and verification will be done. Apart from this, voters who do not have mobile phones can also put e-votes on the Bihar Election Commission website.
