A government employee in Hingoli, Maharashtra became a victim of cyber fraud as soon as he opened the marriage invitation on WhatsApp. The thugs stole data from his mobile and blew Rs 1.90 lakh from the bank account.

As soon as the victim clicked on that file, the virus was activated in his phone. Cyber criminals immediately accessed mobile data and transferred money from his bank account. In a short time, Rs 1.90 lakh disappeared from the victim’s account. After the incident, the victim has lodged a complaint at Hingoli police station and cyber cell. The police have registered a case against the unknown accused and started investigation.
This is not a new trick. Last year too many people have fallen victim to similar ‘WhatsApp Wedding Invitation Scam’. On downloading the APK file sent in such a message, the phone gets hacked. After this, the thugs not only steal banking details but can also use the victim’s identity and can also make money from his friends and family.
Caution only security
According to experts, the link or file from any unknown number should never be downloaded. If any file seems necessary, then confirm it first. Cyber cell has also warned people not to be cautious with such messages and do not click on any suspicious file.
