A cup of morning is hidden in coffee, the secret of your long life, revealing a new research.
Highlights
- Coffee can slow down the speed of aging.
- Caffeine activates AMPK system.
- Caffeine can be beneficial for long life.
Formula for living long life: Do you also like to drink morning coffee? A new research has shown that coffee not only refreshes you, but can also help slow the speed of increasing age and also help in a long life. The caffeine present in coffee has been linked to many health benefits earlier, such as the risk of diseases caused by aging. However, a study conducted by researchers at Queen Mary University of London in the UK has shown how caffeine works inside human cells and its effect is connected to which genes (genetic properties) and protein. They found that caffeine activates a very old energy-related system in our body cells. It is called AMPK, which is present in both yeast (a kind of fungus) and humans.
Dr. Charlampos (Bebis) Ralis, reader of Genetics, Genomics and Fundamental Cell Biology at the Center for Molecular Cell Biology, Queen Mary University of London, said, “When our cells lack energy, AMPK starts working and handles cells. Caphene helps in on the system.”
Interestingly, AMPK is the same system on which the medicine of a diabetes named Metformin also affects. This medicine and a second drug called rapamayicin is being studied to reduce the effect of aging.
Postdorator Research Scientist Dr. John-Petric Alao, who led this study, said that this research understands why caffeine can be beneficial for health and longevity. Also, in future, ways to eat and drink it can be opened through food items, lifestyle or new medicines and better.
