The addiction of smartphones is increasing among the people. Knowing how many disadvantages of this, people do not use it. In view of older people, its desire is seen increasing even in small children. But no one guesss how dangerous it can be. A global research has revealed that children using smartphones at the age of 13 can cause mental health problems in puberty. This research includes data of more than one lakh youth.

According to this research published in the Journal of Human Development and Capability, the youths of 18 to 24 years saw more complaints of suicidal views, aggression, emotional instability and low self -esteem, which had received the first smartphone at the age of 12 years or less.

Research found that due to the smartphone, children start running social media from an early age, causing cyberbulling, sleep disturbance and distance in relationships with family.

Dr. Tara Thiagarajan, founder and scientist of Sapian Labs of America, said, “Our data shows that the use of smartphones and social media at an early age has a profound impact on mental health in puberty.”

He has demanded immediate steps to protect the mental health of future generations. He says that these children do not see symptoms of depression and anxiety, so these problems do not get caught in general investigation.

Ban should be imposed
Researchers suggested that the use of smartphones like alcohol and tobacco should also be banned for children below 13 years. Also, talked about making digital literacy mandatory and ensuring corporate accountability.

In research, the mental health of 100,000 youth was assessed from a tool called Mind Health Kosanant (M.Hachu), which measures social, emotional, cognitive and physical health. The results showed that getting a smartphone at an early age increases the feeling of mistrust and becomes emotionally weakened, while boys are unstable, turbulent and indifferent or angry.

Countries like France, Netherlands, Italy and New Zealand have implemented rules of ban or limited use on smartphones in schools. Many states of America have also enacted laws to limit the use of smartphones in schools.
