Violent protests took place on Saturday in several areas of the capital Imphal.
The violence erupted late on Saturday night after the news of the arrest of Karan Singh, leader of the Maetai organization Arambai Teengol and some members in Manipur. In many areas of Rajdhani Imphal, protesters set fire to tires and old furniture on the roads. There was also a clash with the police. There is a tense situation in Imphal and adjoining districts.
To overcome the situation, the Manipur government has suspended internet and mobile data service in 5 districts for five days from 11:45 pm on June 7. These include Infal West, Imphal East, Thobal, Kakching and Bishnupur. Curfew has been imposed in Imphal East and Bishnupur from 10 pm.
The Collector of the Imphal East said that there is unrest in the area. Therefore, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Civil Protection Code (BNSS), 5 or more people have been banned and carrying weapons, stone or sticks.
